

Eugene “Gene” Jackson Blake, 85, of Big Lake went to be with the Lord and the love of his life Margie Sunday, November 13, 2016 in Reagan County Care Center.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at First Baptist Church in Big Lake.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with burial following in Glen Rest Cemetery.
Mr. Blake was born May, 14, 1931 in Cherry Valley, Arkansas to George Milam Blake, Sr. and Bernice Ethel Barton Blake.
He married Margie Faye Byrd August 20, 1955 in Midland. Eugene spent his entire working career in the West Texas oilfields.
He spent his retirement working on small engine repair and enjoyed doing woodworking.
He was a true West Texas gentleman who never met a person he didn’t like.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, one sister, and one great granddaughter.
Survivors include three sons, Randy Blake and wife Rita of Big Lake, Ronnie Blake of Odessa, Gary Blake of Big Lake, one daughter Sherry Rackley and husband Mark of Midland, five brothers, Velton Blake, Lloyd Blake, Buddy Blake, Larry Blake and Murrill Blake, two sisters, Agnes Geralds and Dorothy Bowman, four grandsons, and five great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of San Angelo, (HOSA) or Reagan County Care Center.

On December 3, 2016, PeeWee passed away peacefully, from a brief illness. He was born, Dean Dorman, Jr., November 21, 1929, at home in Ranger, TX, to Dean Dorman, Sr. and Nancy Jane Kiser Poynor. PeeWee graduated from Ranger High School, and took a bus that very night to west Texas where he started working the next day. He started his career as a truck driver early and hauled cattle/sheep for Arky Glidewell before settling down in Big Lake, TX.
PeeWee married Darlyne Miller on August 17, 1950; they remained in Big Lake and together raised a family of 4 boys.
In 1957, due to his strong work ethic and determination, he purchased a single bulldozer that he successfully transformed into a family business known as D.D. Poynor Construction. Over the years, he worked his sons and raised them around the business, where they shared his same values and principles. He also employed several family members and gained life-long friendships with other employees and businessmen around west Texas. He was a one-of-a-kind role model and friend.
Throughout his time, PeeWee served as a Director at Reagan State Bank and was named Businessman of the Year by the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce. He was known throughout West Texas for his hard work, generous spirit, and his love to sit and share stories. He was an avid Cowboys fan and enjoyed many years of season tickets, especially during Tom Landry’s time. He also had a soft heart for animals and brought home many strays, including dogs, cats, goats, deer, rabbits, and even prairie-dogs.
He is rejoicing in heaven with three sons, Buddy, Wayne, and Winn Poynor, his parents, three brothers, Willie, Wesley, and Jack Poynor, and a special nephew, Ricky Poynor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Darlyne; one son, Joe D. Poynor, and wife Debbie, of Breckenridge, TX.; two daughter-in-laws, Letha Poynor, of Big Lake, TX., and Marla Poynor, husband Britt, also of Big Lake, TX.; his beloved grandchildren, J.D. Poynor, wife Carrie of San Angelo, TX., Shane Poynor, wife Sarah, of Breckenridge, TX., Amy Poynor Evans, husband Kelly of Midland, TX., Shawn Poynor, wife Anita, of San Angelo, TX., and Whitney Poynor Brandon, husband Jacob, of San Angelo, TX.; 9 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Franklin of Graham, TX; as well as several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, J.D. Poynor, Shane Poynor, and Shawn Poynor; grandson-in-laws, Kelly Evans and Jacob Brandon; and great grandsons, Zane Poynor and Alex Evans.
Honorary Pallbearers include: J.L. Allen, Dale Fisher, Norman Guess, Tommy Holt, Mikel Jones, Terry Jones, Everett Miller, Britt Poynor, Bill Schneemann, Wayne Smith, CR Sproul, and John Wilha.
A viewing will be held Thursday, December 8, 2016, at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Big Lake. Directly following, at 2:00 pm, will be a memorial service to celebrate and honor his life.
Betty went home to be with her Lord on Monday, January 9, 2017 in Big Lake, Texas.
She was born as Grace Elizabeth Caffall in Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas on August 5, 1926 to the late, James M. and Pauline Grace Early Caffall.
Betty and her sister, Martha, were born and grew up in Port Arthur, where they attended the local Port Arthur schools and graduated in May of 1945 from Thomas Jefferson High School. During high school, she was in the ensemble Melody Maids playing the flute, where she was a member of the Maroon and Gold Band. Also in May of 1945, Betty was inducted as an officer in the Masonic Order of Rainbow Girls as Secretary. She began her post- high school education in Lamar College in Beaumont, Texas. Two years later she transferred to Sam Houston State in Huntsville, and graduated in June of 1949 with her degree in teaching. During her years at Sam Houston State, she was active in Kappa Pi, Band, Orchestra, A.C.E. and the Betty Club ( A club for women named Betty).
On June 9, 1951, Grace Elizabeth Caffall married James B. Turner in Port Arthur. Between 1952-1954, Betty taught in Marque, Texas ISD and by January of 1954, Betty and James moved to the Turner Ranch, north of Best, Texas. From 1954-1981, she taught school in Reagan County, Texas elementary system before retiring in 1981. In total, Betty taught school for 30 years, 27 of them being in Big Lake. Since her retirement, she had lived in Big Lake and been involved and busy with Happy Home Makers, Garden Club, The Masonic Order of the Eastern Star, Trail Blazers, and the First United Methodist Church, helping local kids with reading both in school and at her home, cross stitch, crocheting, and painting.
Flower and vegetable gardening, and traveling both by motorhome and tour groups were favorite pastimes. In 1996, Betty was honored with her 50 year certification of membership with the Grand Chapter of Texas of the Order of the Eastern Star and in 2001 she became an endowed member.
The love of Betty's life, her husband, James Belcher Turner, passed away in 1988, after 37 years of marriage. Over the years, she has remained in touch with all the Turner and Caffall families. To all her nephews and nieces, she is known affectionately as "Aunt Betty".
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and nephews, Bob Turner and Richard Martin.
Survivors include her sister, Martha (Jim) Anderson; nephews, James (Donna)Turner, Bill (Carol) Turner, Charles (Edith) Turner, Tim (Marian) Turner, Scott (Pam) Anderson, and Sid (Amy) Anderson; nieces, Meg (Trey) Brown, Mildred (Dan) Dubbs, Susan (Jack) Thorn, and Beth Martin; 14 great nephews; 8 great nieces; 17 great great nephews; 9 great great nieces; and one more on the way, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
There will be a time of visitation from 10:00am - 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, Big Lake just prior to funeral services that will be held at 1:30pm with Rev. Gerald Bastin officiating. Interment will follow in the Stiles Cemetery, Big Lake. Great nephews will serve as pallbearers. On March 28, 2017 Joe Roy Collins, 84, of Big Lake, TX went to be with his Heavenly Father and his beloved wife Mina Ruth and son Buster in Heaven.
He was born in Mertzon, TX on June 16, 1932 to Roy and Hazel Collins. He is preceded in death by his parents, his eldest son Joe Ralph "Buster" Collins, and his only sibling, Ethel Irene Collins Everett Yearger. Joe Roy graduated from Barnhart ISD, and attended Sul Ross State University, and then San Angelo College where he enjoyed his days as "CocoMo the Rodeo Clown" until he met his bride. He married Mina Ruth Jennings on February 15, 1953 and together they had four sons, Joe Ralph "Buster," Eddie Wayne, Kenneth Lee "Red", and David Brian "Spaz." He worked most of his years with both El Paso Natural Gas and Western Gas Resources. In his early days he served as Constable of Irion County Sheriff's Office, and also spent several years on the Big Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He was a certified Life Scout and enjoyed running Diamond C Feed & Supply in Big Lake in his later years.
Joe is survived by three sons, Eddie Wayne and wife Jenny of Houston, Kenneth Lee and wife Robin of Big Lake, and David Brian and wife Patti of Mertzon; three grandsons, Ian and wife Mandie of Katy, Grayson of Katy, and Andy Coates of Mertzon; six granddaughters, Kimberly of St. Petersburg, FL, Kara of Midland, Katy and husband Jake Ward of San Angelo, Mindy and husband Will Seahorn of Mertzon, Hannah of Katy, and Kim and Randy Stinson of Washington; six great-grandchildren; and multiple neices and nephews.
Pallbearers will include Ian Collins, Andy Coates, Joel Denham, Ray Denham, Jake Ward, and Billy Millsap. Honorary pallbearers include Grayson Collins, Schraeder Seahorn, Luke Seahorn, and Will Seahorn.
Throughout his years, Joe Roy planted love in the hearts of each of those closest to him and was sure to nurture that love every chance he got. He cared deeply for his family, friends, and those who cared so diligently for him toward the end of his life. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Reagan County Care Center by having memorials sent to Care Friends of the care center.

Hermie B. Dittman, 77, just two weeks shy of 78, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 in Big Lake. She was born August 5, 1939 in Eldorado, Texas to Buren America and Zella Ophelia (Mercer) Whitten. She graduated from Eldorado High School in 1957 and married the love of her life Don Dittman in 1972. Hermie was a loving mother and homemaker, she received 1st place in several quilting contests as well as sang in Christmas and Easter Cantatas. She was a member of the church choir, Happy Homemakers and the Dairy Queen bunch. Hermie was a Sunday school teacher for 30 + years at First Baptist Church in Big Lake. She loved sewing, quilting, embroidery and making blankets for others. Hermie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jonnie Mormon; and nephews, John Mormon and Tony Whitten. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don Dittman; son, Bob Davis and wife Gayla of Big Lake; daughter, Robin Russell and husband, Marty of Big Lake; daughter, Amber Stephenson and husband Clint of Liberty Hill; grandchildren, Parker Russell, Hayden Russell, Tucker Stephenson and Payton Stephenson; brothers, B.A. (Ike) Whitten and wife Donna, Tom Whitten and wife Linda and W.W. (Buff) Whitten and wife Dawn; sister, Lisa Williams and husband Gary; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service were held Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Big Lake with Pastor Gerald Bastin officiating. Burial followed in Glen Rest Cemetery.
